Vernacare wins third manufacturing award of 2012
Bolton-based medical products producer Vernacare has been highly commended in the prestigious Manufacturer of the Year Awards - joining an elite group of finalists, including, BAE Systems, Rolls Royce, Ford, Sony, Coca-Cola and United Biscuits. This accolade follows the company's recent success in the Cranfield School of Management and Work Management's Best Factory Awards, which set the benchmark for excellence in manufacturing and engineering. Vernacare won the Judges Special Award for leadership, cultural change and engineering, and were 2nd placed ( Highly Commended ) for Best Process Plant. In 2011 the company also received the Queen's Award for Innovation.

Disposable Eco-Friendly Bedpans Increase Nurse Morale
"It's been successful, especially for nurse satisfaction," said Amy Tyler, RN, BSN, CEN, a staff development specialist for emergency services and the clinical decision unit at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware, which implemented the disposable system in the emergency department in 2008. "They are not having to clean out used patient-care items." Vernacare of Toronto, Canada, produces the molded pulp-paper product, which resembles an egg carton, from recycled newspapers and telephone books, without using dyes or bleaches. It adds a natural resin to keep the utensils leak-proof. Bedpans require a plastic base, since the pulp-paper device cannot support a patient's weight.
